Antimicrobial Resistance

Antimicrobial resistance is a global public health threat that was estimated to cost 10 million lives by 2050. AMR requires urgent multi-sectoral “one-health” in order to achieve the global aim of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) under the Sustainable Development goal 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing, https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/health/). To tackle AMR, countries were encouraged to design their National Action Plans (NAPs). Nigeria’s NAP (https://ncdc.gov.ng/themes/common/docs/protocols/77_1511368219.pdf) focused on five key thematic areas: Awareness, Surveillance, IPC, Rational Use of Antimicrobials, and Antimicrobial Stewardship.
