Animal Health

Optimum Animal Health (AH) is crucial to optimum human health (HH) as 70% of all human diseases are of animal origin. AH poses serious socio-economic challenges especially to small scale farmers. Poor AH has threatened livelihoods across Nigeria, is associated with poverty, and have affected rural women tremendously. In Nigeria, diseases such as Bird Flu, Swine Flu, African swine Fever, FMD, PPR, have devasted the animal health sector. In addition, zoonotic diseases such as Taeniasis, cysticercosis, Leptospirosis, Toxoplasmosis, Hepatitis E virus, Rabies have been grossly under-reported, poor financed, and poorly diagnosed.
